Διαδικτυακή Διάλεξη με θέμα «Aristotle’s Criticism of the Theory of Forms between Athens and Alexandria: Syrianus and Asclepius οn the Αrguments for the Εxistence of Forms.» (εισηγητής: Pieter d’Hoine)
Στο πλαίσιο του Eρευνητικού Προγράμματος «Μεταξύ Αθήνας & Αλεξάνδρειας. Πλατωνισμός, 3ος–7ος αι. μ.Χ.» (2022-2024), το οποίο υλοποιείται με την υποστήριξη του Ιδρύματος Α. Σ. Ωνάση, το ΙΜΣ-ITE, σε συνεργασία με το Κέντρο Ελληνιστικών Σπουδών (ΚΕΣ) της νέας Βιβλιοθήκης της Αλεξάνδρειας, διοργανώνει μηνιαία σειρά διαλέξεων με θεματολογία που άπτεται του αρχαίου Νεοπλατωνισμού (3ος–7ος αι. μ. Χ.).
Η σειρα φιλοξενεί ομιλίες διακεκριμένων μελετητών στα αγγλικά ή στα γαλλικά. Οι συναντήσεις πραγματοποιούνται μέσω της ηλεκτρονικής πλατφόρμας Zoom στις 7μμ. (ώρα Ελλάδος).
Για το έτος 2022, οι διαλέξεις επικεντρώνονται στον Αλεξανδρινό και Αθηναϊκό Νεοπλατωνισμό, με έμφαση στον Πλωτίνο (204/5-270) καθώς και στην ύστερη νεοπλατωνική πρόσληψη και κριτική της φιλοσοφίας του.

Την Τετάρτη 26 Οκτωβρίου στις 19:00 ο Prof. Pieter d’Hoine (KU Leuven) θα μιλήσει με θέμα : «Aristotle’s Criticism of the Theory of Forms between Athens and Alexandria: Syrianus and Asclepius οn the Αrguments for the Εxistence of Forms.». Η ομιλία και η συζητηση θα γίνουν στα αγγλικα.
Περίληψη
Much has been written in recent decades about the relation between the Athenian and Alexandrian commentators of the fifth and sixth centuries AD. Many of these studies suffer from the fact that there are hardly any cases where one can compare the interpretations of a single source-text by commentators from Athens and Alexandria. Syrianus’ commentary on Metaphysics M and Asclepius’ commentary on Metaphysics A provide a valuable exception. In this talk, I will present a case study on Syrianus’ and Asclepius’ ways of approaching Aristotle’s criticism of the Forms. Taking as our starting point the analysis of both commentators’ response to the criticism of the Platonic arguments for the existence of Forms in Metaphysics A/M and in On Ideas, we will try to get a better grip on the doctrinal and exegetical affinities and divergences between the two commentators and their schools.
