Maria Vakondiou

Maria Vakondiou studied History and Archeology at the University of Crete (1998-2003) and continued her postgraduate studies at the same University. In 2018 she received her PhD. The title of her thesis was Stone carvers and sculptors in Venetian Crete.

Since 2003, she has been participating in research projects of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies-FORTH:

·  Western Art in Crete,
·  Digital Crete: Mediterranean Cultural Itineries,
·  Detecting colors on stone sculpture on the island of Crete dating from the Venetian and Ottoman times (Institute for Mediterranean Studies and Institute of Electronic Structure & Laser
·  History of the management of water resources in Crete.

She has taught Byzantine Archaeology at the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete and art History of Byzantine Art  at the School of Fine Arts in Athens. She has also worked at the Department of Antiquities of Rethymno.
