Spyros Tzokas is the Group Leader at the Department of History of Technology of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies-Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (IMS/FORTH. He holds a PhD in History & Philosophy of Science & Technology (Department of History & Philosophy of Science/National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, HPS/NKUA & National Technical University of Athens, NTUA). His dissertation is entitled “On the Social Construction of the Technical Objectivity: The Formative Period of Greek Engineering, late 19th – early 20th century” (2011). Since 2013, he has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies-FORTH on the following research projects: i) “ELISTOKAINO/Greek History of Innovation”: The Innovation in the Industrial Production: Theory and Practice, funded by General Secretariat for Research & Technology (2013–2015, Scientific coordinator: Prof. Ch. Hadziiossif), ii) “ARCHERS”: Policies of Protection of Industrial Property in Greece during the 20th century, financed by Stavros Niarchos Foundation (2017–2019, (Scientific coordinator: Prof. Ch. Hadziiossif ), iii) Looking for Oil in the Greek Territory, 1920-1980, funded by European Structural & Investment Funds (ESIF, 2014-2020)/Greek Ministry of Development & Investments, (2020-2021, Academic coordinator: Prof. G. Harlaftis). Currently he is the scientific coordinator of the IMS Project ‘FORTHistory 1983-2023’, (directed by Prof. G. Harlaftis, funded by FORTH, 2021-2023). Tzokas has participated in several international/national research projects on the History & Philosophy of Science & Technology, Science Technology Studies, Science Communication, Innovation Studies and Digital Humanities. He has teaching experience in undergraduate courses: “Human & Natural Sciences in Europe”, (Hellenic Open University, School of Humanities, Studies in European Civilization 2012-2020, “History of Engineering & Technology” (NTUA 2015-2017), “Science & Technology in Greece, 19th - 20th c.” (HPS/NKUA 2009-2010), and graduate courses: “Science, Technology, Environment” (HPS/NKUA, 2012-2013), “History, Technology, Industrial Archaeology” (NKUA, 2012- 2015). Tzokas was the curator of the prestigious IMS/FORTH Historical Exhibition in the National Library of Greece entitled: “‘We… The Experts of the Meter and the Compass’. Key Aspects of the Greek Engineers’ Activities, 1880–1940”, (Vallianios Building-National Library of Greece - IMS-FORTH, 2015–2016).
