Demetris Papastamatiou is Assistant Professor of Ottoman History at the Department of History and Archaeology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. His major research interests focus on wealth distribution, networks of money circulation and commercial relations in the eighteenth-century Ottoman Balkans, while his work is based almost exclusively on pertinent Ottoman sources. His latest book is Wealth Distribution, Social Stratification and Material Culture in an Ottoman Metropolis.
