
Yorgos Moraitis

Centre of Maritime History Yorgos Moraitis is a Lecturer in Chinese History at the University of Crete. His research focuses on the history of Sino-Western trade and diplomatic relations from the late 19th century to the rise of the CCP in 1945. His PhD at Queen’s University Belfast was funded by the European Marie Curie Programme. He did his master’s degree in Politics, Society and Economy of Asia at Leiden University. His first book, Robert Hart and Sino-Foreign Disputes in Qing China, 1863-1908, is due to be published by Palgrave Macmillan in August 2025. His collaboration with IMS began in March 2025 and is part of the China Program.
