Ioulia Pipinia is Assistant Professor of Theatre Studies at the Department of Drama, Faculty of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She read Classics at the University of Crete, Greece and theatre history at the Department of Drama, University of Bristol, England. Her PhD thesis is on nineteenth-century French and English melodrama (title: Casting Identities: French Melodramas on the London Stage, 1802-1822, University of Bristol, 2002). She has worked as a researcher for the Institute of Mediterranean Studies in Greece and she has taught drama and theatre history at the Department of Theatre Studies, University of Patras, the Department of Philology, University of Crete. She is also Tutor at the Hellenic Open University. Her articles and publications are on issues related to the influence of the European stage on the Greek theatre of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
