Post Doc Researcher with PhD in Byzantine History specialized in hagiography of the Early Byzantine period.

The Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies - Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (IMS-FORTH), announces a Post-Doc scholarship for scholars that want to participate in the implementation of the project « DynByzCrete- Recapturing the Dynamics of the Early Byzantine Settlements in Crete: Old problems - New Interpretations through an Interdisciplinary Approach». The project is carried out under the framework of the Operational Programme «EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING» (NSRF 2007-2013) and specifically the action «ARISTEIA ΙΙ».

Research objectives

The research objectives of the position include: the historical data retrieval concerning the Early Byzantine cities and settlements in Crete, the compilation of a digital data base of historical data retrieval, the active participation in the publications of the project's results in international peer reviewed journals and conferences. Candidates need to have a strong stimulus and be able to collaborate and interact constructively within an international team with various disciplines.

Necessary Requirements:

1. PhD in Byzantine History specialized in the hagiography of the Early Byzantine period.

2. Publications in peer review journals and/or international conferences.

3. Good knowledge of English and French and reading skills of German and Russian.

Location: Rethymno, Crete, Greece

Contract duration: The duration of the post is 2 months (in case of extension of the program) with monthly gross salary 1700 Euro. We should emphasize that the goal of the Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment, IMS-FORTH is to invest in long-term collaborations with promising scientists and scholars that will participate in future funded projects.

  4. Please note that the call for proposals for a contract for the lease of this project is not competitive, while any option counterparty has the character of acceptance of a proposal rather than "hiring".

In case the original documents do not match the copies that have been submitted with the application, the applicant is dismissed from the application procedure.
