The Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies - Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (IMS-FORTH), announces a Post-Doc scholarship for scholars that want to participate in the implementation of the project «Application of Novel Geo-Information Technologies in Ancient Greek Urban Studies (ΑncientCity)». The project is carried out under the framework of the Operational Programme «EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING» (NSRF 2007-2013) and specifically the action «ARISTEIA ΙΙ».

Research objectives

The research objectives of the post include: the processing/interpretation of archive aerial photos, the collection, processing and interpretation of new photos with UAV systems, the participation in a number of fieldwork activities in Greece, the delivery of lectures in international seminars that will be organized by IMS-FORTH, the active participation in the publications of the project's results in international peer reviewed journals and conferences. Candidates need to have a strong stimulus and be able to collaborate and interact constructively within an international team with various disciplines.

Necessary Requirements:

1.        PhD in Archaeology specialized in Landscape Archaeology.

2.        Experience in techniques of aerial photography with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and photogrammetry for the archaeological research.

3.        Publications in peer review journals and/or international conferences.

4.        Participation in a number of research projects for the collection, processing and interpretation of aerial photos for the archaeological research.

5.        Knowledge of GIS (ArcGIS) and topographic mapping through GPS.

6.        Experience in the organization of Workshops.

7.     Experience in the practical application of geophysical prospection methods.

8.        Very good knowledge of English.

Location: Rethymno, Crete, Greece

Contract duration / Salary: The duration of the post is 4 months with monthly gross salary 1900 Euro. We should emphasize that the goal of the Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment, IMS-FORTH is to invest in long-term collaborations with promising scientists and scholars that they will participate in future funded projects.
