Elizabeth Zachariadou has been Professor of Turkish Studies in the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete from 1985 to 1998. Since 1987 she has been responsible for the Programme of Turkish Studies at the Institute of Mediterranean Studies. In 1990 she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Ankara. Since 1993 she has been a member of Academia Europaea. She is the author of the following books:

Prof. Zachariadou edited the proceedings of the first four international symposia of the Programme of Turkish Studies of the Institute of Mediterranean Studies:

Vassilis Demetriades
Vassilis Demetriades has been Professor of Turkish Studies in the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete from 1984 to 1998. Since 1987 he has been responsible for the Programme of Turkish Studies at the Institute of Mediterranean Studies. He is the author of the following books:

Antonis Anastasopoulos
Antonis Anastasopoulos is a graduate of the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Athens. He holds an M.Phil and a PhD in Islamic Studies from the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the University of Cambridge. His dissertation was entitled “Imperial Institutions and Local Communities: Ottoman Karaferye, 1758-1774”.
His publications deal with the social history of the Ottoman Empire, focusing on the Balkans of the 18th century.
Antonis Anastasopoulos is Lecturer in Turkish Studies in the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete and research fellow of the Programme of Turkish Studies of the IMS.
Elias Kolovos
Elias Kolovos is a graduate of the Department of History and Archaeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He holds a PhD in Turkish Studies from the same Department. His dissertation was entitled “Peasants and Monks in Ottoman Halkidiki, 15th - 16th c.” (in Greek).
His publications deal with the history of monasteries, rural and town history, focusing on the Ottoman Balkans of 15th-17th century. Elias Kolovos is Lecturer in Ottoman History in the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete and research fellow of the Programme of Turkish Studies of the IMS.
