Language and Literature
One of the most dynamic and productive research
sections of the Institute of Mediterranean Studies is that of Language-Literature.
For about fifteen years,
within the framework of the activities of the Language-Literature section, four
research projects have been carried out (Archive of Modern Greek Prosody, Archive
of Greek Prose 1830-1880, Bibliographical Guide to the Poems of Giorgos Seferis,
Koraïs as a classical philologist), whereas a further two projects are
currently under way (Archive of Modern Greek Prosody: The romantic ballad, Poetical
texts of the revival of ancient metres in the 19th century). The purpose of both
the completed projects and on-going projects is on the one hand to fill basic
infrastructure gaps in the study Modern Greek Literature (19th and 20th century),
by locating reproducing and archiving primary material, and on the other hand
to orientate academic literary research towards the important fields which as
yet have not stimulated interest to the degree that they ought (e.g. study of
prosody). The main products of the Language-Literature projects are two archives
(Archive of Modern Greek Prosody, Archive of Greek Prose 1830-1880) and a bibliographical
guide (to the poems of Giorgos Seferis), which are today in the Institute of
Mediterranean Studies, as well as a considerable number of books and dozens of
studies, which those in charge of the projects either wrote or edited.
